Under 12 Update

Hurling, Away to Crosshaven, Saturday May 31st

Football, Away to Dripsey, Monday June 2nd

Football, Away to Tracton, Friday June 6th

Our Under 12s have had a busy programme over the past week or so, with 3 away matches – producing 3 wins!

First up we were in Crosshaven on a beautiful Saturday at the end of May in perfect conditions for hurling. Fine performances in the opening half from Conor Docherty and Fionn Hickey (albeit in dubious jerseys!) saw little to choose between the teams at halftime. In the second half it was the turn of Patrick O’Hara and Adrian Buckley to get a little colour-blind! Still the game was a close affair, good work from the younger brigade such as Senan Ryan, Ethan Ryan, Stephen Whooley & Fionnan Quinlan saw White’s Cross take the victory.

On Monday night we travelled to Dripsey to take on their footballers. A good workout for all involved. Aaron Wallace was very influential in goals, assured under the ball but also picking good options from the kickouts. Sean Twomey and Harry Coughlan were excellent in defence. Jack O’Callaghan drifted between defence and attack and set up a number of fine scores. Mass hysteria drifted through the team with the presence of a 5 year old girl on the Dripsey side! Once that was sorted however the lads settled down to play a decent game!

On an overcast Friday night we were in Tracton again on football duty. This was a really good game of football, tightly contested all over the field. Patrick O’Hara, Tom Casey and Harry Coughlan were to the fore from the start and set the tone. Good early scores from Adrian Buckley, Fionn Hickey and Conor Docherty settled the team. However there was no easy possession to be won, and Tracton came back each time with scores of their own. Senan Ryan, Ethan Ryan and Brendan Quain fought tigerishly for each ball and made sure their opponents had to work for everything. Stephen Whooley, Daniel Kelleher and sub Jack Collins did great work in the forwards, regularly getting on the ball and setting up scores for Adrian, Conor and Fionn who all had their scoring boots. Despite being under intense pressure at times Aaron Wallace made a number of fine saves to keep some distance between the teams. In the end we came away with a fine win against a strong Tracton side, in what was our best team performance of the year so far.

Well done to all involved in these 3 matches, lets keep it going!!

White’s Cross GAA 07/06/2014 Cork GAA Monster Blitz in St. Vincents

Saturday morning saw one of our under 8 teams head too St. Vincent’s Gaa club for one of Cork’s Monster Gaa blitzes. The code of the day was hurling, and the young players were all well up for the challenge. The team consisting of Cathal Whooley, James Buckley, Seàn Delaney, Ronan Healy, Kaelan Garde, Jamie Murphy, Emmet Coughlan, Jack Kelleher, Aidan Docherty, Hugo o Hara, Adam o Connor, Michael Mullins and managed by Martin Kelleher. This group of lads played Whitechurch, Passage and Blarney. The lads played very well against three very strong teams. Jamie Murphy, Jack Kelleher, Kaelan Garde and Emmet Coughlan were kept on their toes in the forward line trying to use every ball coming their way to the team’s advantage. Hugo O Hara, Cathal Whooley and Aidan Docherty showed great team work in midfield by passing the ball down the line. Seàn Delaney, Ronan Healy, James Buckley, Michael Mullins were very busy in the back line with the ball coming fast and hard at times. Our goalie Cathal Whooley was also kept well on his toes during all three games doing well clearing the ball when he could. It was a great morning up in Vincent’s Gaa club and all participants had a great morning out. Well done to our under 8 team that came out and played their best in the green and white colours.

White’s Cross GAA Blitz in Brian Dillions 31/05/2014.

White’s Cross gaa blitz Brian Dillions 31/05/2014.

On the last day of May 2014 our u9 & 8’s went to a hurling blitz up in the tank field organised by our local Gardaí. It was a great morning out for our players and to make it even better the sun was shining and again White’s Cross field two teams on the day.

White’s Cross (Home) consisted of Aidan Docherty, Seàn O Mahony, Mark O Keeffe, Ruairri Quinlan, David Morley, David O Mahony, Cathal Whooley & Caolan Garde. This group of players lead by Martin Kelleher played Blarney, Ballgiblin and Brian Dillon’s. They showed great determination in all three matches.  The majority of this team were under 8 but this didn’t bother our team’s moral. Aidan Docherty showed great skill in goal by blocking the ball and his puck outs going long and high giving Sean O Mahony and Mark O Keeffe a great chance in securing the ball. Both players were well able to catch the ball and play it long in the air. This skill is only allowed to be played by under 9’s upwards so our under 8 players showed how well advanced they were by been able to do this skill. Ruairi Quinlan and David O Mahony played outstanding in the back line giving great support to the goalie by blocking and pulling on the ball regularly. Their defence skills were superb on the day. Cathal Whooley, Caolan Garde and David Morley were outstanding in the forward line playing well as a team and getting plenty of scores by catching the ball in the air and using it well with their long and hard pucks on the ground and in the air for a few points. Well done lads

White’s Cross (AWAY) consisted of Rian Harden, Jamie Murphy, Ciaran Aitken, Eddie Coughlan, Seàn Delaney, Liam O Connor, Michael Mullins, Traolach Dawson and lead by Nick Harden. This team played Sars, Blarney and Ballygiblin. Again the majority of these players were under 8 but you wouldn’t see in their play. From the word go the boys went into every match to play their best and that they did. Rian Harden caused serious problems for all the teams with his great blocking and saving of the ball.  His job was made a little easier with his outstanding back line consisting of Liam O Connor, Michael Mullins and Seàn Delaney. Little ball passed these lads as they should great determination in picking, pulling and pucking the ball long in the air and on the ground. Their passing skills to their midfields Eddie Coughlan and Ciaran Aitken were spot on giving them brilliant chances at scoring from the half way line. Eddie was outstanding on the day showing his natural talent of the game. Jamie Murphy and Traolach Dawson used every ball that came into them well with majority of them turning into scores. Again each player used all their skills well and played well like a team. Again well done lads

It was a great morning up in the tank field and each player really enjoying themselves. It was great seeing the bunch of lads with smiles on their faces playing the game of hurling with a bit of competiveness in them also. Again thanks to the coaches Nick Harden and Martin Kelleher for giving up their spare time in training the lads each week, I think every parent up there this morning would agree they are doing a fab job.  Also thanks to Brian Dillon’s for hosting this great event and thanks to An Garda Siochàn for organising this along with our local community Guard Noel Fitzgerald. Each player received a goody bag of sweets and a medal which they were very proud in receiving. A big get well goes out to Luke Mullins who is sick at the moment and would defiantly been at the match and would have played well also. Get well soon Luke from all your team mates at White’s Cross GAA.
